[13.09.2011] Switchover underway in West Midlands, Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme

TG Staff | 07.09.2011

The first stage of the digital switchover has been completed in the Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme TV region and the West Midlands TV region.

Analogue BBC Two was turned off permanently at the Fenton transmitter serving Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme TV region and at the Sutton Coldfield transmitter group serving the West Midlands.

The start of TV switchover means more than 270,000 viewers in digital blackspots such as Hartington, Tenbury Wells and Leamington Spa can get BBC Freeview channels for the first time.

Those watching Freeview, Top Up TV or BT Vision may find their BBC channels are currently missing. These services have moved to new frequencies and can be restored by retuning equipment.

The digital switchover in both regions will be completed on 21 September, when the remaining analogue channels will be switched off permanently. All analogue TVs will need to be converted to digital to continue receiving programmes from this date.
