[16.09.2007] Russia Today starts broadcasting in NYC

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Russia Today, the first English-speaking Russian news channel, is now available to Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey digital cable customers on Channel 135. Russia Today features round-the-clock analytical programs, documentaries and news, and highlights dynamic events taking place in modern day Russia with expert views on economics, politics, social issues, arts, cultural and more.

Russia Today was added to Time Warner Cable’s digital cable service as of 30 August 30. Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey serves over 1.4 million customers in four NYC boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and western Brooklyn), Mt. Vernon, Hudson Valley (Orange, Sullivan, Ulster Counties and parts of Dutchess, Greene and Delaware Counties) and Bergen and Hudson Counties, New Jersey.

“As always, our focus is on people who are interested in news from and about Russia, and also those interested in international politics,” said Margarita Simonyan, Editor-in-Chief of Russia Today. “Now, we are glad that in New York, a city where dozens of cultures live in harmony, people will… see news that differs from the usual agenda. We have an opportunity to convey our own idea about the importance of various events. I am sure that viewers themselves will suggest what they would like to see on air and, of course, we will respond. We already have experience in doing this in the regions where we are currently broadcasting.”
